Late Developers Participatory Photography Project

"We've been living life through the camera, seeing our history through the photographs we are taking. 
We learnt and we've developed. We are reviving memories and seeing things from new angles and points of view.  We've taken photos to create memories. We all live in London. Our photographs show our different local histories."

Last year I assisted in facilitating workshops for the Late Developers participatory photography project in London.  Through a series of 12 weekly photography workshops, we worked with a group of elders from Millman Street Resource Centre, building confidence and skills in using point and shoot cameras. The project used photography to engage elders creatively in the present, helping them to share stories about their lives, and to be active in creating visual records and memories.

This weekend, Oct 20/21, as part of the fabulous Bloomsbury Festival, some of their work will be exhibited in Queens Square, London WC1N.

Late Developers is a participatory photography project and part of Clod Ensemble's Extravagant Acts for Mature People programme supported by Arts Council England, Baring Foundation, Rayne Foundation, Awards For All.  With thanks to Photovoice.

There are few celebrated examples of older populations representing themselves photographically. Through this exhibition we are privileged to see something of their lives through their own eyes.
